6 Days Great Migration Kenya Safari

Embark on an unforgettable 6-day safari adventure through Kenya’s most iconic landscapes, witnessing the Great Migration—one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles. This journey takes you from the flamingo-filled lakes of the Rift Valley to the vast savannahs of the Masai Mara, home to Africa’s Big Five and the legendary wildebeest migration. Along the way, experience vibrant Maasai culture, dramatic scenery, and thrilling wildlife encounters. Ideal between July and August when the migration is at its peak, this safari is a perfect blend of nature, culture, and adventure.

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Bogoria

Your adventure begins in Nairobi with a morning departure at 9:30 a.m. Travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, stopping en route to enjoy panoramic views and photo opportunities. After lunch in Nakuru town, proceed to Lake Bogoria, a saline, alkaline lake known for its steaming hot springs and flocks of flamingoes.

Set up camp in the late afternoon near the hot springs. The rest of the day is free for exploration—stroll along the lake shores, marvel at the geysers, and watch for wildlife such as greater kudu, zebras, and birds. Lake Bogoria is a peaceful and surreal setting, ideal for nature lovers and photographers.

Day 2: Lake Baringo & Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, take a short 30-kilometer drive to Lake Baringo, a renowned bird sanctuary and freshwater lake. Here, you’ll embark on a guided boat safari, offering a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of water birds including fish eagles.

Later, travel back south to Lake Nakuru National Park, a haven for birdlife and endangered species. The park is home to both black and white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, leopards, and the ever-graceful flamingoes. Enjoy a late afternoon game drive before settling into your lodge or campsite for the night.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru – Narok Town

Today, you journey towards the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. En route, stop at Narok, a vibrant Maasai town where you’ll overnight. This stop helps break the journey and allows for cultural immersion into Maasai life. Wander through the local markets and interact with the friendly locals to learn more about their traditions.

Days 4 & 5: Masai Mara National Reserve – Wildlife & Migration

Spend the next two days immersed in the magic of the Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Your game drives will take you deep into the park where vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross over from Tanzania’s Serengeti in search of fresh grazing—part of the Great Migration.

This region is also teeming with elephants, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, and many other species. The landscape of rolling plains, acacia woodlands, and meandering rivers sets the perfect backdrop for your safari experience.

On your final evening in the Mara, enjoy an authentic Maasai cultural performance featuring traditional music and dance around the campfire—an engaging way to connect with the indigenous culture and cap off your adventure in style.

Day 6: Masai Mara – Nairobi via Narok

After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and make your way back through Narok, where you can shop for Maasai souvenirs such as beadwork, fabrics, and wood carvings. Then continue to Nairobi, where your safari ends in the late afternoon.
