2 Days Rwanda Cultural & City Tour

2 Days

Rwanda is more than its breathtaking landscapes and wildlife; it is a country of vibrant traditions, resilient people, and a rich cultural identity. This 2-day cultural and city tour takes you deep into Kigali’s past and present, while offering a glimpse into rural life, traditional art, music, and storytelling. It’s a perfect extension to a gorilla trekking safari or a standalone short holiday for those curious about Rwanda’s unique cultural fabric.

Day 1: Kigali City Tour – History, Art & Local Flavor

Your cultural journey begins in Kigali, often described as Africa’s cleanest and safest capital. After breakfast or airport pick-up, start the day with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a deeply moving tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It offers essential context to Rwanda’s recent history and its remarkable journey of healing and reconciliation.

Next, explore Kimironko Market, the city’s busiest local market, filled with colorful fabrics, fresh produce, and warm Rwandan smiles. It’s a great place to interact with locals and witness day-to-day life.

Continue with a stop at the Inema Arts Center, where Rwanda’s emerging artists showcase their creativity through contemporary painting, sculpture, and mixed media. You’ll also visit Caplaki Handicrafts Village, perfect for souvenir shopping—especially traditional crafts, woodcarvings, and woven baskets.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional Rwandan dinner experience at a cultural restaurant like Repub Lounge or Heaven Restaurant, accompanied by music or storytelling (optional).

Overnight: Hotel des Mille Collines / Onomo Hotel / Heaven Boutique Hotel
Meals: Lunch and Dinner

Day 2: Rwandan Culture & Traditions – Iby’Iwacu Cultural Experience

After breakfast, depart Kigali for the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village near Volcanoes National Park (approximately 2.5 hours’ drive). This vibrant cultural center offers a hands-on experience of traditional Rwandan life. You’ll be warmly welcomed with songs and dances by local performers dressed in traditional attire.

Participate in various activities such as:

  • Learning how to grind millet or cook local dishes
  • Trying out intore (warrior) dances
  • Visiting a traditional healer
  • Exploring replica royal huts and hearing stories from elders

This experience is not only fun and interactive but also supports community-based tourism and the livelihoods of reformed poachers and local residents.

After lunch in Musanze, begin your journey back to Kigali, arriving in the early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your departure flight.
